Buckeyes

3/4 c. butter (no sustitutes)
3 3/4 c. sifted powdered sugar
1 c. peanut butter
1 T. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
16 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
1 T. shortening

Combine melted butter and 2 cups powdered sugar in medium bowl. Beat until smooth. Add peanut butter, milk and vanilla. Beat enough remaining sugar to make firm, crumbly mixture. Roll mixture into 1-inch balls. Arrange on tray. Chill 30 minutes. Melt chocolate and shortening in heavy saucepan over low heat. Cool slightly. Using fork, dip 3/4 of each ball into chocolate. Remelt mixture over low heat if chocolate hardens. Place balls on tray lined with wax paper. Chill until firm. Store in refrigerator. Makes about 72.
